Meet Michael Ratigan

Michael Ratigan has called Elon home for over a decade. As a husband, father, and local business owner, he understands what makes this town special, and what it takes to keep it moving forward.
In 2008, Michael left a career in education to help grow his family’s small textile manufacturing business in Alamance County. Today, as President of Fjord, Inc., he leads an award-winning company recognized across North Carolina for innovation, craftsmanship, and job creation. Through its globally distributed brands, Chafe-Pro® and STREP®, Fjord has become the world leader in specialized rope and edge-protection products used in maritime, rescue, and industrial markets. What began as a local operation has grown into the global leader in its market sector.
With twenty-two issued patents and a proven record of managing complex budgets and driving sustainable growth, Michael has built a business grounded in accountability, efficiency, and fiscal responsibility, values he will bring to Elon’s Town Council.
He’s running to ensure that Elon continues to grow wisely, support local schools, and strengthen the sense of community that makes this town a great place to live and work. Michael believes in practical solutions, transparent leadership, and building a future that reflects the best of what Elon has always been.
